Historical Information

The DC-3 was produced in the mid 1930's as a response to TWA's request for a competitor to the Boing 247. It's first flight was in December, 1935. The initial rollout was for a plane with sleeping accommodations. This was soon upgraded to have seating instead of the sleeping berths. Civilian production was halted at the start of WWII. A total of over 16,000 civilian and military aircraft were produced. As of 2013 approximately 2,000 were still flying.
